Tuesday’s Musing: Creating an Environment to Thrive
by Lisa Seppala, True North Implementation
There is a quiet yet powerful voice inside that’s seeking a path to the world. The path that allows it to finally be heard. It is a joyful, creative voice that says it has something important to share.
Like a song whose lyrics you can’t shake, this thought has been ever-present in my mind for the last few weeks until I finally wrote it down. Whether its source is fragments of quotes I’ve heard and read over the years or whether it’s entirely original, it came from within.
These moments of inspiration are emerging with increased frequency since we recently moved our lives and businesses to a new, smaller community. The driver for this move, for me anyway, was the urgent need to live and work in an environment that allowed creativity to flourish. Now I’m in the ‘zone’ more often than not, and my inner, creative voice is increasingly finding its way to the surface, positively impacting all aspects of my life, professionally and personally.
Having lived and worked where I was obligated to for much of my life, until now I’d never addressed the always present hankering for a simpler life. The COVID-19 pandemic did many things, and one of those was to enable us to re-invent the way we deliver our service. Now, each of us, my husband and I, have created the work environment that allows us to thrive and that in turn shows up in our service to clients.
We know that people bring their whole selves to work, and we as employers, whether of ourselves or of others, are well served by allowing space for those whole selves to flourish.
How are you creating a path for your inner voice to find its way into the world? What approaches are you taking to enable your employees to do the same? I’d really like to hear from you on this topic.
