What if nothing was holding you back?
By Lisa Seppala, True North Implementation
That is a question, among many others, frequently asked in coaching sessions.
Coaching sessions are client-driven – the client, not the coach, sets the agenda. Through questioning and active listening, the coach helps the client:
- gain clarity around their goals,
- identify ways to remove potential roadblocks, and
- develop an action plan to achieve their goals.
As a coach, I’ve learned that everyone’s goals are different, and they can range from being baby steps required to work through a minor challenge to lofty ‘change the world’ type goals. Every goal is important, and they’re as unique as the clients who bring them forward.
As a client, I have benefited from being coached as it helped me:
- Clarify my goals and personal vision, and develop plans to achieve them
- Align my life and career with my values (a gamechanger for me!)
- Develop strategies to sort through interpersonal challenges
- Acquire tools to address both the daily and longer-term challenges
- Get ‘there’ faster than if I was going it alone
- Hold myself accountable for following through.
Yes, I’m biased, and for a good reason. Being a coach allows me to support others on their journey to reach their goals effectively. As a pragmatic person, hiring a coach helped me work through challenges, deliver results, achieve my goals, and do it all quicker.
